About:

Detroit hip-hop artist keemthefranchize presents his latest mixtape called BLACK SUMMER.

This “Free EP” is described as an expression about the dark space, while embracing this extraordinary dark race. BLACK SUMMER stays true to the lyrical word-play and storytelling style that fans of keemthefranchize have come to love and expect.

When asked about the inspiration behind BLACK SUMMER, Keem explains that "things came to a tipping point. I was already in a dark place from dealing with the effects of covid-19, losing my godmother, the racial injustice, remembering last summer but grateful to be out of that dark spot, and then I was blindsided by a situation with some friends of mine. I normally don’t speak on things that bother me. I usually bottle it up, but I felt like this time it was necessary to speak on it.” Although it was a dark time, Keem says that he was also able to get in tune with his skin, the melanin, and have pride in his blackness. “I’ve never spoke on race when previous injustices bothered me because I felt awkward and fearful.” Keem hopes that BLACK SUMMER will inspire others to process and heal from their own dark spots. He says, “We all have dark moments, but being vulnerable and transparent about it is the start of healing.”

A student of the old school sounds of hip-hop, he classes his work as renaissance hip hop as it pays tribute to the traditions of the genre. With 10 albums, 2 EP’s, numerous international collaborations, and over 15 years in the music industry, Los Angeles (by way of North Carolina) emcee, ethemadassassin, is the physical embodiment of dedication, perseverance, independent artistry, and hustle.

Debuting as a solo artist in 2004 with the album, “Proverbs,” E followed up with 2008’s, “Tomorrow Never Comes,” and 2013’s, “Soul On Fire,” all of which E executive produced. During those years, E formed the now defunct group, Veteran Assassins and co-executive produced and released the albums, “Veteran Assassins,” in 2010, “Paint The Town Red,” in 2012, and, “G.O.L.D.” in 2016. Each of these albums, along with 10 Top 10 charting singles on Rap Attack Lives and Rap Network charts (USA and Canada), numerous guest appearances, a video on MTVBase (“Walk My Shoes” off 2008’s, “Tomorrow Never Comes”), videos on Ralph McDaniels’ Video Music Box (“Walk My Shoes,” “Lemme In,” off Veteran Assassins’ 2016 release, “G.O.L.D,” and “Spoiler Alert,” off “Bear Handz 2: Bear Market”), and international festival appearances (New Skool Rules, Rotterdam NL, Hip Hop Sonic, Groningen NL, Midem, Cannes Fr, StreetKrush, Gorinchem, NL) have garnered international recognition, acclaim, and praise and helped catapult ethemadassassin into position as an underground stalwart with a towering stage presence with a lyrical ability to produce uber-vivid depictions of the realities of his way of life.

Following the hostile breakup of Veteran Assassins, ethemadassassin re-emerged as a solo artist marked by an eventful 2018, dropping an EP, “Motivations” with Luse Kanz, produced by THE WDSMN, and his 4th and 5th solo albums, “Bear Handz: Magmatic” produced by QuakeMobb and, “Bear Handz 2: Bear Market,” produced by Nazar.

ethemadassassin started 2019 off with a super bang, releasing his 5th solo album, “Bear Handz 3: Animal House,” produced by ShortFuZe with features from Celinski The Mayor, J.Bond (of Illpo), O.G. Bobby Ne’gro, Pisto Pop, Sneek Rothstein, and Luse Kanz. E also made his mark in the music production world as he helped BMG Production Music earn the 2019 Mark Award for “Best Hip-Hop/R&B/Urban Track,” as lead writer and solo vocalist for Selectracks Song Catalog’s, ‘Stand Up (Put Our Fists Up)’ with Josh Mobley and Moria Denson (aka Jimi James).

In March 2020, ethemadassassin released, “Chain Reaction,” a collaborative EP with Los Angeles producer/emcee Diar Lansky. In September 2020, E released “Bear Handz 4: Dark Side Of The Mountain,” which features the singles, “Children Of The Night,” “Don’t Mix Ya Dishes,” and “10.” BH4 is produced entirely by Swedish boombap producer, Twelvebit.

On January 5, 2021, E is coming right back with the next Bear Handz installment, “Bear Handz 5: Gram Newton” produced by Akthentik, with appearances from Hus Kingpin, Supreme Cerebral, and XP The Marxman.

Also on the horizon is a collaborative EP with PNW (by way of NC) emcee, Seven Da Pantha, produced by Slide Beatz, a separate solo EP produced by Slide Beatz and an EP produced by long time friend and collaborator, Gav Beats, who recently produced the 2019 summer smash, “Black Men Don’t Cheat.”

Is Bow Wow Afraid of Soulja Boy???

BowWow VS. Soulja Boy

Embarrassed time and time again, Bow Wow somehow manages to stay some kind of relevant. Last we heard was the plane picture bomb fiasco, where he posed as owning a private plane. But, later was outted by fans taking pictures of him in coach on a commercial airline.

But, not even the thirsty for fame rapper found by Snoop, and molded by Jermaine Dupri, would succumb to a probably highly anticipated Verzuz battle with Soulja Boy.

"In February 2009, Soulja Boy uploaded a video to his YouTube account after buying a new Lamborghini, and issued a challenge to Bow Wow to race him for his car. But apparently, Bow Wow took umbrage to Soulja Boy's remarks and filmed a clip of himself in a Lamborghini, disparaging Soulja Boy's own pricey car before issuing his own challenge to Soulja Boy to race him," Reports XXL

"Soulja Boy would finally respond by questioning Bow Wow's ownership of his own Lamborghini, alleging that it was actually rented and not his property. Bow Wow would then shoot back with another video of his own, providing papers as proof of his car not being rented. The two would proceed to go back and forth with each other in an attempt to one-up the other in a beef that would run deep throughout the years.

'#ListenBitch add @ChrisBrown & @BowWow followers together and you still aint half way fuckin wit me lol,' Soulja wrote. He would further disparage Bow Wow, pointing to his upcoming album and the lack of fanfare surrounding it.

'lol @bowwow there you go. fuck bank accounts. fuck followers. let's see who new album sell the most 1st week.'

Soulja Boy and Bow Wow have since collaborated on various songs together, but will also have a love/hate relationship with each other."

2020 Murdered Rappers

 Rappers Murdered in 2020

We Lost Alot This Year:

The Hip Hop Community has always suffered tragedies. Me, Personally, the two hardest losses I've had to endear is the lost of Tupac and Nipsey Hussle, ironically two West Coast legends. The worst detail about all these deaths is that they happened by the hands of other black men. (Let me get on my soapbox real quick and say We need to stop this CRIME IN OUR COMMUNITIES, I don't believe in Black on Black Crime.)

But, in 2020 it seemed as, even though we all had it rough, rappers were literally targets especially in Dallas Tx. With shootings on almost every street, even Boosie got caught in the leg. Thankfully he survived.

But what about those that didn't well lets honor them by remembering their music:

Bashar Barakah Jackson

(July 20, 1999 – February 19, 2020), known professionally as Pop Smoke, was an American rapper, singer and songwriter. He was considered by many to be the face of Brooklyn drill. Born and raised in Canarsie, Brooklyn, Pop Smoke began his musical career in 2018. He often collaborated with UK drill artists and producers, who employed more minimal and aggressive instrumentation than drill artists from Chicago. Pop Smoke rose to fame with the release of his breakout single "Welcome to the Party" in April 2019.[7]

Following his rise to fame, Pop Smoke signed a recording contract with Victor Victor Worldwide and Republic Records, and released his debut mixtape Meet the Woo (2019). The mixtape's second single, "Dior", produced by 808Melo, reached number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100. His second mixtape, Meet the Woo 2 (2020), debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200. Two weeks after the release of the project, Pop Smoke was fatally shot in a home invasion in Los Angeles. His debut studio album, Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon, was posthumously released in July 2020 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, with all 19 tracks from the album charting on the Billboard Hot 100.

Pop Smoke died on February 19, 2020, after being shot twice during a home invasion in Hollywood Hills, California. According to authorities, four hooded men entered the home at about 4:30 AM on February 19; one of them wore a ski mask and carried a handgun. Police received news of the home invasion from a call from the East Coast. Police arrived at the home six minutes later and found Pop Smoke with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. On February 21, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner revealed that the cause of Pop Smoke's death was a gunshot wound to the torso.

Pop Smoke was interred at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn. On July 10, five men were arrested in connection with his murder. Four were charged with his murder: Corey Walker, 19, Keandre Rodgers, 18, and two teenagers, aged 17 and 15. Since the crime was committed during a robbery, the adults are eligible for the death penalty. A fifth person, 21-year-old Jaquan Murphy was charged with attempted murder.

Lawrence Franks Jr.

(September 12, 1987 – June 25, 2020), better known by his stage name Huey, was an American rapper from St. LouisMissouri. Originally signed to Jive Records, Franks was best known for his 2006 debut single, "Pop, Lock & Drop It".

Music beginnings

At age 15, Huey began creating hip hop beats. His older brother referred Franks to producer Angela Richardson, who was creating a rap group. Franks began performing as Huey, and his songs "Oh" and "Pop, Lock & Drop It" became local favorites among DJs and promoters. Huey was featured on a series of mixtapes, one of which, Unsigned Hype, sold out of its run of 8,000 copies and was noticed by producer TJ Chapman, who introduced the rapper to Vice President of A&R at Jive Records, Mickey "MeMpHiTz" Wright, in 2006.

2006–2007: Notebook Paper

Huey's debut album for the label, Notebook Paper, was released in mid-2007, described by AllMusic as sounding like a mixture of NellyChingy, and Ludacris. The album reached number 26 on the Billboard 200 chart and number 10 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. "Pop, Lock & Drop It", its lead single, peaked at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming his biggest hit to date. Nelly's refusal to work with Huey on his debut album prompted two diss tracks "Down, Down, Baby" featuring Tha Camp Boyz and "Back at Cha'". Notebook Paper's next single was "When I Hustle" featuring singer Lloyd.

2010: Redemption

Huey's second album, Redemption, was released on September 14, 2010 after many delays. The first official single from the album was "Smile and Wave", which features Dorrough and was released on June 15, 2010. In "Smile and Wave", Huey criticizes his critics.

2013–2020: Project H

In 2013 Huey announced that he had officially signed with Waka Flocka Flame's label Brick Squad Monopoly and was working on his third album. On May 14, 2014 Huey released his mixtape entitled Project H. However, not much materialized from his signing to Brick Squad and Huey had been relatively quiet on the music scene in recent years. According to music executive William "Quayshaun" Carter, who worked with Huey in the 2010s, prior to his death, Huey had just started a business in upscale clothing, "and it was working out, and he was happy".

Death

Around 11 PM on June 25, 2020, Huey and an unidentified 21-year old male were both shot in front of Huey's home in Kinloch, Missouri. Huey was taken to a hospital where he died shortly after arriving. The other victim survived according to the Ferguson Police. Huey survived by his 13-year old daughter.

Dayvon Daquan Bennett

(August 9, 1994 – November 6, 2020), known professionally as King Von, was an American rapper and songwriter from ChicagoIllinois. He was signed to Lil Durk's record label, Only the Family and Empire Distribution.

After fellow rapper Lil Durk signed King Von to his Only the Family label, Von released his single "Crazy Story" on December 6, 2018, and it became his breakout single.

On Valentine's Day 2019, Von's then-girlfriend, rapper Asian Doll, released a music video for her track about the artist, "Grandson," in which Von appeared.

In May 2019, "Crazy Story 2.0" featuring Lil Durk was released, and a subsequent music video was later released on May 20 of that month and peaked at number four on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. On September 13, 2019, a third rendition of the single called "Crazy Story Pt. 3" was released.

On July 9, 2019, Lil Durk and King Von released their collaborative single "Like That". On September 2, 2019, Von released his single "What It's Like". The single then appeared on his album Grandson, Vol. 1. On September 19, 2019, Von released his 15 track mixtape, Grandson, Vol. 1, featuring Lil Durk on a pair of tracks. The album debuted at number 75 on the Billboard 200and number 27 on the Hip Hop/R&B albums chart. On November 16, 2019, Von released his single "2 A.M". On November 29, 2019, Von released his single "Rolling" featuring YNW Melly, accompanied with a music video.

On January 10, 2020, Detroit rapper Sada Baby's single "Pressin" was released featuring King Von. On February 21, 2020, Von released "Took Her to the O", which went on to become one his most popular songs. It was included on his mixtape, LeVon James, released on March 6, 2020, which peaked at number 63 on the Billboard 200. The album features verses from NLE ChoppaPolo G, Tee Grizzley, G Herbo, Lil Durk, and YNW Melly, among others.

On April 29, 2020, King Von released his single "Grandson for President", which did well in popularity. He followed that up with a music video release for "Broke Opps", a song off LeVon James. He then released another single, titled "Why He Told" on July 27, 2020, and followed that up with another popular single, "All These N***as", which garnered over 21 million views on YouTube. He then released another single, titled "How It Go", on August 26, 2020.

On October 9, 2020, King Von released "I Am What I Am", featuring New York rapper Fivio Foreign. This release was in anticipation of his debut studio album Welcome to O'Block, released on October 30, 2020. The 16-track album features production Chopsquad DJ, Tay KeithWheezy and Hitmaka, among others. The album includes the Polo G collaboration "The Code", which was released with a music video. Von explained the key difference between his Levon James mixtape and Welcome to O'Block: "If you're doing something and keep doing it, you're gonna get better results. Everything better. It is the one for real, I've been working hard. Complex said the album sees Von "reflecting with an acute lyrical clarity on his rise and how newfound fame could impact his own life and the lives of his loved ones", while Revolt noted of the drill album: "Often rapping about Chicago and his well-respected neighborhood, this album most certainly paints the vivid picture of his cinematic lyrics while portraying his stand-out cadences through each record".

Death

On November 6, 2020, King Von was involved in an altercation in a downtown Atlanta nightclub that took place around 3:20 a.m. between two groups of men, one of them associated with rapper Quando Rondo. The dispute quickly resulted in a shootout, which two police officers attempted to break up with additional gunfire. Bennett was subsequently transported to a hospital in critical condition and died later that day. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation initially reported that three people were killed, but an Atlanta police spokesman said that only two of them died. Four people were wounded; one of them was placed in police custody for the murder of King Von. The suspect was identified as Timothy Leeks, aged 22.

Melvin Noble

The North Dallas-bred rapper became a buzzworthy new artist in 2014 with his debut mixtape, Shottaz. The project spawned the viral hit “Hold Ur Tongue” and a noteworthy sequel in Shottaz Reloaded. Mo3 rose to prominence with his magnetic persona, signature melodic flow and life-imitating-art street stories on certified hits “Errybody,” “Keep It G,” “True Story” and “I’m the Truth.” Lyrically, Mo3 was a rugged wordsmith and a complex artist whose fans relished his rebellious authenticity.

By 2016, Mo3’s popularity magnified through the intrigue born of his controversial past, consistent run-ins with Dallas police and reports of violent altercations. In 2019, the rapper said he had survived an incident in which he'd been shot in the head while shooting a music video. His brutally honest tales of street life and ongoing conflict with other Dallas-Fort Worth artists were frequently documented in his songs, generating millions of streams.

Fans immediately took to social media in remembrance of the late artist, posting videos and photos of the Osama creator. Dallas native KingLuciano47 called him “the hardest out of Dallas.”

Death

The Dallas hip-hop community was rocked Wednesday afternoon as news flooded social media that recording artist Mo3 was reportedly shot and killed near the intersection of RL Thornton Freeway (Interstate 35) and Marsalis Avenue in Oak Cliff. According to law enforcement, the 28-year-old artist was shot shortly before noon and taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Shade Room, a popular entertainment blog, broke the story on Instagram minutes after the shooting with a video of the “Everybody (Remix)” hitmaker receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation as he lay on the freeway curbside.

TMZ reported that Mo3 and the gunman were traveling separately and northbound on the highway when the gunman approached Mo3’s vehicle. Mo3 reportedly fled his vehicle, and the gunman gave chase, firing multiple shots that hit Mo3 in the back of the head. The news outlet wrote that the gunman also shot a bystander inside his or her vehicle, who was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
